How Does Ethical Angel Create Valuable Learning Experiences?

At Ethical Angel, we’re committed to providing valuable learning experiences. We’ve spent thousands of hours researching what makes a good learning experience. What we’ve discovered are 3 key ingredients that are crucial to creating experiences that empower learners no matter their level or individual learning styles.

1. A great learning experience adds value to the learner.

We recognise that learners engage with experiences in different ways, and that we need to ensure that experiences are learner-led and learner focused. Experiences must provide the room for learners to express themselves, reflect on their experiences and flex their unique style.

2. A great learning experience focuses on being effective first.

We know that success in learning is predicated on outcomes and effective learning experiences are driven by clear, measurable results. That’s why we focus on taking learners out of their comfort zone when completing learning experiences, whilst also providing enough structure to help them reflect meaningfully when completing the necessary deliverables.

3. A great learning experience promotes further learning.

There is no end to learning. Experiences need to engage and promote continued learning by providing a clear and consistent learner journey, whilst also providing variety to encourage curiosity and ongoing engagement.

How does Ethical Angel use this to create valuable learning experiences?

Ethical Angel offers a variety of learning experiences which differ in length and nature. We offer 3 different categories of learning experiences:

      • Create: Creating content/documents/policy and more

      • Interact: Providing advice, mentoring and/or coaching

      • Review: Critical assessment of a piece of content/document/policy or more

No matter what type of experience our learners embark on, Ethical Angel provides a consistent structure. Each learning experience can be broken down into 4 stages, providing learners with regular ‘check-points’ on their journey.

Why 4 stages?

We recognise the importance of the journey for learners. We believe that a learning experience is only valuable if a learner recognises:

      • Where they were prior to an experience

      • Where they are after completing an experience

      • How they got there

That’s why we create projects with 4 standardised stages. To provide learners with a clear and consistent method, with a singular focus: Outcomes

Driving outcomes through staging

Attached to each stage are broad behavioural themes, providing a consistent learner journey.  Upon completion of a stage, learners are provided with a timely intervention in which they will reflect on the specific behaviours being practised throughout an experience.

You can see what broad behavioural themes appear at each stage below:

Every project has specific behavioural goals attached to each stage, linked with one of the broad behavioural themes i.e. Stage 1 will comprise a communication based behaviour OR a leadership based behaviour. These behaviours will be based on the needs of the learners and their specific behavioural development goals.

Learner-led and learner-focused

Behavioural development goals are unique to the learner and their specific needs, allowing them to express their unique style whilst focusing on their individual goals, in a learner-led and learner focused approach.

Projects are then curated in the 4 stage structure, with a clear deliverable, to provide a degree of consistency and ensure learners understand the journey and can repeatedly engage with learning experiences with minimal friction.

Engagement in learning

The ability to pause at the end of each stage and reflect presents learners with a continual feedback loop, making development of the necessary behaviours rewarding and engaging and promoting further learning. We provide learners with specific, open questions relating to their behaviour goals at each stage, encouraging them to reflect meaningfully on what they learned and how they will apply it in future work engagements/projects.

Ethical Angel facilitates 360 feedback, to allow learners to receive external feedback, enabling them to identify areas of success and improvement through multiple sources of feedback. This rewards learners for completing experiences, whilst highlighting new opportunities for learning.

Final takeaways

Stages provide learners with the opportunity to test themselves in challenging new experiences that take them out of their comfort zone without creating barriers or friction. Staging is consistent across all experiences making it repeatable to further target behaviours in subsequent projects providing learners with a clear journey and roadmap to achieve their behavioural goals.

Providing learners with structured, new experiences and empowering them to engage and reflect on their specific behavioural goals at the right time, helps Ethical Angel create consistently valuable experiences.
